Meet the New Digital Media Coordinator: Josh Wray

Josh Wray | Mammoth Lakes Tourism Digital Marketing

Before joining Mammoth Lakes Tourism, Josh Wray managed the social media platforms for VisitMammoth. He started as a freelance channel manager for Instagram, growing that audience from zero to 1000 engaged followers in the first month. Josh did such an exceptional job leveraging the inspirational aspects of the No Small Adventure campaign and the VisitMammoth brand that we asked him to manage our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Josh excelled on these platforms as well, elevating audience engagement and increasing numbers of followers. Josh also has a heart for building, serving and supporting communities, not just online communities, but our own, real-life, local community. It is Josh’s greatest wish to collaborate with local businesses and community members to inspire people to visit Mammoth Lakes.

On why Mammoth Lakes Tourism:
I chose to work for Mammoth Lakes Tourism because I saw the opportunity to promote a community that I love deeply. The creative community is amazing here and Mammoth Lakes is by far the most beautiful place in California. What could be better than working with an organization that inspires people to visit and enjoy this ultimate outdoor playground?

On his experience:
I started working with MLT as the Instagram Channel Manager in August 2014. I saw a need for that channel, so I raised the question with Christie Osborne and took the appropriate steps to show I could reach and inspire new audiences on this platform. Prior to starting the job, I worked with Christie to develop a vision and goals for the channel. Each goal we set, I surpassed and the channel grew quickly and organically. From that success came the opportunity to manage the VisitMammoth Facebook and Twitter channels. I’m proud to say I’m beating the goals set up for those channels, too.

I’ve always had the mindset and heart for marketing and knew I would work in the field someday. I saw social media as a way to get into this career. In addition to running my own personal channels and the VisitMammoth channels I have worked with Black Velvet Coffee and Viewpoint Condos to build their Instagram audiences.

My photography has also played a major role in successfully growing channels. I can go out and capture unique and local images to build brand-specific content. Photography is a passion of mine as well as my way of giving back to the community.

On how he sees MLT continuing to serve the Mammoth Lakes business and creative communities:
I see MLT as a major asset to this community. Our work encourages potential visitors to come and see what is so special on this side of the of the Sierra. If we are successful at doing that, everyone in town thrives. Another example of how I see MLT serving this town is the knowledge we can share with local businesses. We are honing our skills everyday, trying new things, staying on top of current trends, exploring the boundaries of our field and sometimes pushing those boundaries. With that experience we can offer local businesses powerful marketing insights.

On his favorite thing about Mammoth Lakes Tourism so far:
It’s exciting, challenging, ever-changing and fun to work with a high-energy team of professionals, who truly want to see our beautiful community enjoy economic success and cultural vibrancy.

On what he does for fun:
The word “fun” for me is central to nearly everything I do. If I had to choose a couple of activities that really make me beam, they would include dirt biking, skating, hiking, and snowboarding. Ripping the the open flats or narrow single track on my dirtbike is how I get a thrill. Meeting up with a group of good friends at the Volcom Brothers Skatepark is how I feel connected. Hiking deep in to the raw and spectacular trails of the Eastern Sierra with my camera is how I refresh. And diving into deep and fluffy powder turns on my snowboard is how I smile most pure.
