From June 17-22, 2014 Mammoth Lakes Tourism hosted the Western Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). A group of approximately 50 travel writers and their spouses, as well as public relations specialists converged on Mammoth Lakes. Attendees spent four days exploring Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding Mono and Inyo counties.
Members of SATW are writers, photographers, editors, film lecturers, broadcast/video/film producers, bloggers, website contributors and owners, creators of mobile apps and public relations representatives. Members contribute to hundreds of magazines, newspapers and websites including National Geographic Traveler, Westways Magazine, the Los Angeles Times travel section, Boston Globe travel section, San Francisco Chronicle travel section, Travel + Leisure, Chicago Tribune and many more. There are also several chapter members who produce television travel shows including Emmy award-winning Joe’s Travelscope.
Mammoth Lakes Tourism hosted the event in partnership with Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, the Westin Monache, Mono and Inyo counties, the U.S. Forest Service and the Southern Mono Historical Society.
The goal is to provide conference attendees with experiences they can take back to their respective publications to produce content to share with their readers. To date, the following stories and videos have come out of the conference:
